On Saturday May 9, Berklee’s class of 2015 walked across the stage at Boston University’s Agganis Arena to receive their diplomas and shake hands with President Roger Brown. The class of 2015 featured three graduates from Berklee’s online degree program. Larry “the O” Oppenheimer, Ryan Gardner, and Chad Bowe are the first students to graduate from the online bachelor of professional studies program. At Berklee Online, we could not be prouder of Larry, Ryan, and Chad! This is an exciting moment in our graduating students’ lives and also in Berklee history.

Larry attended Berklee in the 1970s but had to leave campus before completing his degree. Despite not having a degree, Larry’s career flourished and he found himself working on major motion pictures and TV shows. Eventually, as the music industry continued to grow at a faster-than-ever pace, he realized that a bachelor’s degree could help him stay more competitive in the field. Berklee Online gave Larry the opportunity to complete his degree online, graduating with a bachelor of professional studies degree in Music Production.

Ryan was in the U.S. Navy when he started a degree program at the University of Oklahoma. Between deployments and a growing family, he soon found that he didn’t have time for school, too. Using his GI benefits, Ryan was able to finish his degree with Berklee Online. Studying online granted him the flexibility to juggle his family and a demanding job. “I wouldn’t have been able to do it if I had to sit down in a classroom and go to school,” he says. Now that he has earned his bachelor of professional studies degree in Music Business, Ryan will continue to work on a variety of projects, including an independent record label, an artist management firm, and a tech start-up.

Chad earned an associate’s degree in Social and Behavioral Sciences from Moorpark College in 2013. After building a home recording studio, the multi-instrumentalist and songwriter wanted to learn more about the business side of the music industry. Now that he has earned a bachelor of professional studies degree in Music Business with Berklee Online, Chad is equipped with the skills to help his home studio expands its client base. “I want to help passionate musicians inspire people,” he says.
